Our founder, William M. Lillard, was born in 1921. He grew up in a small house in Annandale, Virginia. After serving in the Army during World War II he returned home and began his career as a wallpaper hanger.
Having customers who also desired painting in their homes as part of their projects he expanded his services to include painting forming William M. Lillard Painting and Paperhanging.
Having been born and raised in Northern Virginia, Mr. Lillard witnessed this area grow from the farmlands of his youth to the beginnings of the bustling urban landscape it has become today!
Lillard Painting grew to have as many as 100 employees but Mr. Lillard maintained about forty full-time employees.
In 1970 William Lillard Jr. "Bill" followed in his father's footsteps. Working and learning alongside his Dad for over twenty years until he took the reigns in 1991. Being raised on the principals of honest hard work Bill continued the core ideals of Lillard Painting.
If you lived and worked in the Northern Virginia area from the 40's to the 90's you probably saw our trucks as they used to be. In their original red color with hand painted lettering. Imagine having a red van while working with white paint everyday! Making the switch over to all white vehicles in the mid to late 90's we now honor that part of our history by incorporating the red into our logo.
